Advanced Selfies – Trial One

If you’ve been following us on Instagram recently, you’ve seen our stories of our first attempt at advanced selfies…. and if you did see them, you may have chuckled a little. πŸ˜‰ Grant had been eager to get outside and test his hand at advanced selfies even before we had a decent tripod. I bought one a number of years ago and unfortunately, it was cheap and couldn’t handle the weight of a 24-70mm lens. We’re talking, you set it up and it tilts forward to take photos of the ground. Not exactly ideal for successful advanced selfies. So, this Manfroto Tripod was a huge upgrade and Grant was so excited about it that he couldn’t wait to get it outside. πŸ˜‰Β This tripod is a beast and I think it’ll handle taking lots of selfies for us! πŸ˜‰ We plan to bring it on every trip we take so that Grant can work on improving his landscape photography as well as our advanced selfies. We’re still working on an official name for it, so for now it’ll just be called “The Beast”. πŸ˜‰

On Wednesday, The Beast in hand, Grant and I set out to explore new areas for our advanced selfies. This proved to be a lot harder than we originally thought it would be. We had planned our shoot to take place with blankets, hot chocolate, and a small fire. But agreeing on where we would take the shots proved to be difficult. We both had certain ideas in mind as to how we wanted the landscape to look and how the background would be. End result? We almost ran out of light and had to remind ourselves that we were there to have fun and it didn’t matter if we didn’t find that picture perfect selfie spot we originally thought we needed. As it turns out, despite the gravel by the creek being a little rough to sit in, it was perfect and we really enjoyed ourselves. πŸ™‚

Needless to say, we did get our exercise in as we hiked around with a thermos filled with hot chocolate, homemade whipped cream (because no hot chocolate is complete without it), the majority of our camera equipment, blankets, The Beast, and a random assortment of other things (just in case we needed them). πŸ˜‰

We plan on doing more advanced selfies in the near future, and I’m hoping for snow in the next shoot! We’ll see though. πŸ˜‰ For now, enjoy these random photos of our hike and selfies!

I love all of the pictures! You guys are the cutest and I can’t wait to see more!
Were these taken at Dad and Mom’s cause the background looks familiar?
